Old Mutual Soweto Marathon

JOHANNESBURG, 28 JUNE 2017 – The 2017 Old Mutual Soweto Marathon (OMSM) is officially sold out – four months before race day. For the first time ever, the 24^th edition of the race has reached full capacity in all three race categories: 10km, 21km and the 42.2km marathon.

“We’re delighted with this news,” says Race Director Danny Blumberg. “Working closely with the race partners including Old Mutual, the Gauteng Provincial Government, City of Joburg, SABC, FutureLife, SASCOC, ASA and CGA, among others, has allowed us to implement a solid marketing strategy. Partnered with that was the massive success of last year’s race – an event which left everyone signing up early for the 2017 edition!”

Having opened entries on 30 March, the Soweto Marathon Trust aimed to achieve the full quota of entries of 25 000 by 30 June: a- goal which has successfully been achieved.

“Whether you’re a fun runner or competitive athlete, we can see by reaching the 25 000 cap that people want to participate in the ever growing People’s Race. In terms of the race categories, we have roughly 10 000 entered into the marathon, 9000 on the Half-Marathon and 6000 on the 10km,” said Blumberg.

The race will take place on 5 November 2017 and will start and finish at the FNB Stadium, Nasrec, Johannesburg. The organisers and sponsors of the race, Soweto Marathon Trust and Old Mutual respectively, once again promise runners and all participants a fantastic, fun-filled experience.
